We’ve Moved… to Miami, Florida!

After nearly two decades of calling Minneapolis home, we have relocated our Coolibar office headquarters to the vibrant city of Miami, Florida- the Sunshine State. The driving force behind this move was our deep commitment to being the World Leader in UPF50+ sun protective clothing. Miami, with its endless beach days and a myriad of sun-soaked outdoor activities, has provided the perfect opportunity to wear-test our product alongside our most active users, year-round. This experience helps us to better understand the diverse needs of our customers, who rely on our clothing 365-days a year. We look forward to embracing the Miami sunshine culture while continuing to serve our valued community across the world for all of our customers’ UPF50+ sun protection needs.

Our fabrics are rigorously tested and recommended by dermatologists worldwide. Coolibar’s testing protocol combines multiple standardized tests that account for factors affecting UPF rating of fabric during normal wear and washing including fabric weave, shrinkage, stretching, coatings, chlorine, salt-water, laundry detergent, and changes in color. All our products meet or exceed regulatory law in the countries where Coolibar products are sold.

Our UPF fabric testing protocol:

Step 1. We analyze every fabric for UPF and UVA/UVB ratings before we put it into a product. Each one is tested in 10 spots multiple times to guarantee true UPF 50+ protection that blocks at least 98% of damaging UVA/UVB rays using AATCC 183 Standards.

Step 2. The fabrics that pass our initial UPF tests are then rigorously tested to verify UPF 50+ protection for the lifetime of the garment by simulating real-life situations including:

  • Colorfastness by fabric’s intended use, such as Water, Perspiration, Chlorinated Pool Water, Sea Water, Ozone and more
  • Measurement of residual level of UV-Protection after exposure to conditions that relate to about 2 years of seasonal use - ASTM D6544 Standards
  • Colorfastness to Water: Chlorinated Pool - AATCC 162 Standards
  • 100 Hours of Light Exposure Test

Step 3. The fabrics that meet our high standards are then put into production and every dye lot produced is tested for UV transmittance to assure we always provide world-leading UPF 50+ protection in every garment.
